monkey song #5

Well, we were on the right track,
My Monkey and me,
Rivals laid waste and driven into the sea,
But the laws of desire run much deeper than anticipated,
Getting there is half the battle and more than half the fun
But what’s the battle,
And where’s the battle,
And how will we know if we’ve won?

The booby traps abound,
And the jungle grows deeper,
My Monkey and me like a Tarzan movie swinging through the trees and
How many times must a monkey swing by
Before I see the way?
Oh the answer may not be there,
Or it may be somewhere else,
So we’ll just keep swinging by, my Monkey and me.

Swinging through the rainforest,
Searching high and low,
For evidence of clues,
Disgarded hints of crimes gone by
Deeds misdone, sins unsung, and where do we get some?
And how much will we pay?

Zinging through the jungle after
Perpetrators undisclosed,
Poking through the day old ash, he’s certainly just been here
But the trail’s gone stone cold, but maybe it’s all for the best, ‘cause
What if we do find the culprit, and do we really want to?
Does the fever burn less sweetly,
If it can burn more freely,
And what if it burns out and would that be good? I don’t know.

Mapping out the jungle,
Learning where to go,
Tracking all the suspects,
Making notes of each, the trails they make, the rules they break,
And what is the big deal, and why won’t they let us play?

Well, we were on the right track,
My Monkey and me,
But what’s the use of winning if you’re no longer free?
So the laws of desire run much deeper than anticipated,
But we don’t know where we’re going, and the battle rages on
Oh but we’ll know it when we get there,
Though we might not know the way,
So I guess in the meantime we’ll just have to keep on swinging by
My Monkey and me.
